Who we are, what we do and how we operate

Have you ever wondered who sends photographers to campus events and how to get one at your event? We have the answer!

What is St. Kate's Photo Bureau?

St. Kate’s Photo Bureau is a team of student photographers hired by the Office of Marketing and Communications. The undergraduate students, who come to us with extensive photography experience, work under the supervision of one member of our staff and receive additional training from a contracted professional photographer.

Marketing and Communications also works with many freelance photographers, but St. Kate's Photo Bureau refers to our student photographers, of which there are currently three. 

How do I request St. Kate's Photo Bureau?

Make sure you have the details of your event ready, then submit a request using this online form (requires Kateway access). By filling out the request form, you will help us to provide the best service to you and meet your specific photography needs.

Remember that our student photographers are students first, so your event must fit into the schedule of at least one of our photographers in order for us to complete your request. The Photo Bureau is not staffed to meet all of the University's photography needs, though Marketing and Communications does provide other options for photography.

What does the Photo Bureau photograph?

St. Kate's Photo Bureau takes photos for web and print publications such as SCAN, the University magazine, St. Kate's Newswire and our external websites. The team helps to photograph campus scenes, campus activities and department events with attention to the priorities of the Office of Marketing and Communications.

The Photo Bureau serves the needs of the Office of Marketing and Communications, by providing eye-catching, colorful and updated photos that lift the visibility of St. Catherine University. In many cases, your event will give our photographers great opportunities to catch St. Kate's students, faculty, staff and alumnae in action, and serve our needs at the same time! 

However, in times of high demand, photography requests for external uses will take priority over internal uses. Because our resources are limited, the Photo Bureau also refrains from taking individual headshot photos, with the exception of the Faculty and Staff Photo Booth that takes place once each semester. 

Faculty and Staff Photo Booths are announced twice each year in Kateway.

Where can I see the photos?

Most of the photos taken by St. Kate's Photo Bureau will be uploaded to our Flickr photostream, with photos organized into Collections. You are welcome to download these photos for your own use. We respectfully ask that you are attentive to copyright laws and attribute the photos when possible. 

You can also see photos from our student photographers all over St. Kate's websites! For the last two years, students' favorite photos have been featured in A Year in Photos. Many of the photos on St. Kate's homepage were taken by student photographers as well.
